50,000+ Registered Users Within 12 Months of Launch
Shoorah — AI Mental Health & Wellness Platform
“Foreignerds built our entire platform from zero — both apps, the web dashboard, and the AI chatbot. Shuru isn't just another chatbot; it actually understands how you're feeling and responds like a real wellness coach. The voice feature was a game-changer for user engagement. We've been working together for over a year and they feel like an extension of our team.”
— Founder & CEO, Shoorah
The Background
Shoorah is a mental health and wellness platform combining mood tracking, meditation, therapy-oriented wellness tools, conversational AI, voice interaction, and personalized emotional support. The platform serves both B2C users and B2B corporate wellness programs, with experiences spanning iOS, Android, and web.
At the start of the engagement, Shoorah had the product vision but needed the engineering capability to turn that vision into a production-ready platform. Foreignerds acted as Shoorah’s full-stack engineering and AI integration partner for the initial 16-week build and has remained its development partner for 18+ months since.

The Challenge
Shoorah needed a single AI-powered wellness companion, not another meditation app or another chatbot. The product required several interconnected capabilities to work together as one user experience:
- Combine multiple wellness experiences — mood tracking, meditation, wellness exercises, therapy-oriented tools, and AI-powered emotional support in one platform rather than one category alone.
- Make AI interaction contextual — the AI assistant needed to understand conversational context and respond according to a user’s emotional state rather than return generic scripted responses.
- Add voice interaction — users needed to communicate with the AI assistant through voice as well as text, for a more natural conversational experience.
- Build monetization into the platform — recurring billing, flexible pricing, free trials, cancellation flows, and multi-currency payment support.
- Build for sensitive-data requirements — as a mental health and wellness platform, GDPR requirements and appropriate handling of sensitive information were core product constraints for its UK/EU market.
The delivery challenge was bringing one engineering team across 3 platforms (iOS, Android, Web), AI capabilities (conversational reasoning + contextual retrieval), two interaction modes (text + voice), and commercial infrastructure (subscriptions, free trials, multi-currency payments) together within a structured 16-week initial implementation.
Our Approach & Technical Decisions
Foreignerds acted as Shoorah’s full-stack engineering and AI integration partner, building the platform from the ground up across mobile, web, backend infrastructure, AI, voice and subscription functionality.
Flutter for Cross-Platform Mobile Development
Choice: Flutter.
Why: Shoorah needed simultaneous iOS and Android delivery within the initial 16-week window. A shared codebase reduced the need to maintain two separate native builds while keeping a consistent user experience. The project source estimates approximately 40% lower development time compared with separate native builds — reported here as a source-reported estimate, since the underlying calculation was not supplied.
OpenAI + LangChain for Conversational AI
Choice: OpenAI LLM with LangChain.
Why: Shoorah needed an AI experience that could interpret conversational context and adapt responses and suggestions to a user’s emotional state, rather than rely on fixed scripts.
Pinecone for Contextual Wellness Retrieval
Choice: Pinecone vector database.
Why: Shoorah’s wellness library includes meditations, affirmations, and exercises. Vector-based retrieval matches relevant content to contextual signals such as mood and user history.
Amazon Polly for Voice Interaction
Choice: Amazon Polly.
Why: Voice was designed as a core part of the AI experience, not an add-on. Polly provided text-to-speech and multiple voice personas for personalization.
React for the Web Platform
Choice: React.
Why: Shoorah needed a browser-based experience for desktop users and for B2B corporate administration.
Stripe for Subscription Infrastructure
Choice: Stripe.
Why: Shoorah required recurring subscriptions, free trials, cancellation flows and multi-currency support — Stripe handled monthly and annual billing plus GBP, EUR and INR payment flows.
Privacy and Compliance
GDPR was treated as a core product requirement for the UK/EU market. The project documentation does not provide enough implementation or audit detail to make a separate certification claim, so this case study presents GDPR as a documented design constraint rather than a compliance certification.
Challenge Encountered
The supplied project documentation does not record a specific production failure, app-store rejection, or mid-project scope pivot. Rather than invent a setback, the real documented challenge was coordinating multiple interdependent systems within one structured build: mobile applications → backend → conversational AI → contextual retrieval → voice → subscriptions → launch and iteration. The phased implementation approach let the core platform get established before the AI, voice, subscription and launch layers were brought together.
Implementation Timeline
The initial platform build ran across 16 weeks and five phases: Discovery & UX Design (Weeks 1–3), Core Platform Build (Weeks 4–8), AI Chatbot Development (Weeks 9–12), Voice & Subscription (Weeks 13–14), and Launch & Iteration (Weeks 15–16). The supplied project record documents this plan and the launch phase but does not provide a planned-versus-actual schedule variance, so no “delivered ahead of schedule” claim is made.
Measurement & Attribution
All results below are attributed to the supplied project record for the 12-month post-launch period. The 2.4× session-duration and 25% retention benchmark comparisons are source-reported figures; the underlying benchmark studies were not included in the project documentation, so they are presented as source-reported comparisons rather than independently verified market research.
The Takeaway
An AI wellness product succeeds only if the mobile apps, backend, conversational AI, contextual retrieval, voice layer and subscription infrastructure all work as one coherent experience — not as separate features bolted together. By sequencing that build across five phases and one team, Shoorah went from product vision to a live platform with 50,000+ registered users, 8,200+ daily active users, and 34% 30-day retention within 12 months of launch.
